I went there tonight to get a 40 gallon breeder for my hermit crabs. They had krabooz. They are basically hermit crabs in a cruel and wrong enclosure. They also sell those jail/torture enclosures to. The hermit crabs don’t have enough substrate to molt or deep salt water and fresh water bowls. The crabs in the krabooz tank were very lethargic. If you buy hermit crabs please join the land hermit crab group on Facebook for proper care info if you don’t want it abuse/torture and kill your crab. If you don’t care than your a animal abuser.
DO NOT SHOP HERE; INSTEAD, REPORT IT. The small animals and reptiles are grossly treated. The ferret cage has maggots, piles of poop up to my shin, and moldy food. THE REPTILES ONLY HAD WATER! ONLY WATER!!! No food and barely anywhere to hide in or on. THE CHAMELEONS ARE NOT PROPERLY TAKEN CARE OF. They do not have the amount of plants they should and they're being fed the WRONG INSECTS. They should be fed waxworms and small crickets. THEY'RE FEEDING THEM MEAL WORMS. MEAL WORMS! Those can cause inpaction or prolapse with chameleons because they can't chew and digest the skin. THE MILKSNAKE HAD NO WHERE TO HIDE OR CLIMB. IT JUST HAD A WATER DISH. THE EXECUTIVES OF PETCO NEED TO FIRE AND REHIRE A WHOLE NEW STAFF THAT KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THESE ANIMALS! Animals in captivity CAN NOT take care of themselves. They need to be taken care of, but the employees at this neglected Petco aren't doing what they should. They are letting the animals live in feces, parasites/maggots, and intolerable conditions. Why have a job that deals with LIVING CREATURES that the employees do not take care of?
This Petco is run so horribly. They haven't had a shipment of new mice and rats for 3 weeks. My snake hasn't had the correct size mice for almost a month because they won't restock. I've gotten in contact with the manager and all they say is call back in a few days. This is ridiculous
If you, the customer, want to find a good Petco where the place is clean and the animals are properly taken care of, go to the one in Columbus, Georgia. They know how to take care of their animals, they clean and feed every day. They can give you vast information on all their animals to make sure you're fit and know enough to take care of the animal you want or have.
I literally go in this store more often than I should. I've bought many many fish from this store. I've lost some and still have many. Josh is very knowledgeable and polite. He's answered many questions about stocking diet and compatibility. I enjoy the experience of doing business with Josh at petco.
If anyone else has this problem, I suggest setting up a dip tank with methylene blue (which Petco does not carry, FYI). Instead purchase fish from Dr. Foster and Smith online.
If you, the customer, continue to see horrid conditions in the Petco in Opelika, report it to help the poor animals living in these horrid conditions. Thank you.
DO NOT BUY FISH HERE!!! I just bought a few mollies and they introduced some virus or bacteria to my 50 gal tank! I've already lost 5 of the mollies I bought and one of my own fish. I'm an avid aquascaper and know about water quality. My tank was stabilized and healthy before the recent introduction. I've tested my water parameters twice daily with no problems.
