I would give zero stars if I could. Cold, uncaring staff. Disinterested, uncaring, do-the bare-minimum doctors. Nurses only marginally better. But they will bill you like you had first rate care! It's obvious ALL they care about is the money. Do yourself and your family a favor and go to Columbus or Mongomery. Anywhere but here!
This is a terrible hospital, I thought I was going to die waiting for service, Smith's station fire department took better care of me than the darn nurse's and doctors at East Alabama medical center only time someone came in the room that I was in for over 2 hours was to get a signature and medical insurance info making sure they were paid to do nothing! Then after all the waiting sent me home a prescription drug that I am allergic to that I had informed them about..OMG GO TO COLUMBUS
This is the worst hospital I ever know. I believe there are nice people working there too, but from my own experience of using this hospital in the past few years, this is the worst one. Maybe it was me just having had luck, but three times of using it convinced me this hospital is really no good. First, they would use medical student interns to do some surgery. I was so scared. Even when a real surgeon was standing there. If it was the surgeon himself doing the operation, I believe there would be less blood lost. Then, you know what, a nurse asked me if she could have an intern to work with her. I said no. It was too much to ask after having an intern surgeon you know. Then, she was very upset, and me, too. Also, during the stay as an in-patient, there were constantly noises from construction in the corridor, and what made it worse, one day, dinner was not served till 8:00 p.m.! After a surgery, I believe having a quite environment and having food on time is a must. But, obviously, they didn't care. You know what, what they care most is getting paid. Expect to get phone calls from their billing department if they are not paid as quickly as they want. They do have a financial assistance program as required by law, but people working there are extremely inefficient and lack of sympathy. Sometimes, I doubt even they know what their website requires people to submit. Anyways, this is my personal experience, I believe there are nice people working there too, but again, it may be just me out of luck. If you have a choice, use another hospital.
This place is a joke! Where is the COMPASSION? Not every person that comes in is looking for a high or whatever you guys think. I know you are busy people but damn y'all, its the little things that make a difference. For instance the least you can do is come turn the I.V. off when it gets done running....
My husband has been to the ER twice with stomach pain and feeling faint to the point that he's about to lose consciousness. On the first occasion, he was there for five hours and they cut him loose after telling him his blood work was inconclusive. On the second occasion, we were there for 6 1/2 hours. He had to be brought by ambulance and had to spend 15 minutes filling out paperwork as he was doubled over in pain. He was then sent to sit in the lobby. 20 minutes in the lobby, then back to a triage nurse to explain the problem for 3 minutes. Then back to the lobby for another 40 minutes. They took him back to a crowded room with curtains dividing the patients, and he wasn't given anything for pain for another 2 hours, even though the nurse had assured him they would be getting him something. 3 1/2 hours into our ordeal, he had a CAT scan and something to manage pain. Then we sat and waited for results, which we once again did not get. They told him he "must have passed a kidney stone" and sent us on our way. This is the worst care I've ever seen in a emergency hospital setting. And when people say it's dirty, they mean it. All surfaces in the hospital are dirty with black smudges and grime. The air return vents in the lobby are caked in dirt, and the bathrooms are just as nasty as a low budget gas station. EAMC -- you should be ashamed of the state of your hospital. We won't be back.
